After several weeks (if not months) of speculation, Entrecard has finally announced that members will be able to cash out their credits immediately (starting today). The initial cash out rate has been set at $1/1000 credits. This rate is about midway in the range that people were guessing ($.20 to $5).

The issue here is that currently, the money available to cash out is only enough to cash out a small percentage of the outstanding credits. The cash out system will prioritize members that actively support the community by letting them use the cash out system first. Community support is determined by factors such as:

Drop frequency

# of paid ads approved

# of credit based ads approved

Market listings

Credits transferred to others

Credits spent on ads

I assume that if you see a cash out option on your dashboard, you are one of the prioritized members.

Also, the cash out rate is likely to change in the near future. Whether the rate increases or decreases depends on a variety of factors. If the cash out is able to remove enough credits from the economy so that the value of credits increase, and Entrecard gets consistent revenues from paid ads then the cash out rate may increase. If the Entrecard member community is unhappy about the majority of the members being excluded from the cash out option, then the rate may have to be decreased to allow a larger percentage of users to cash out.

Do you think the the rate and the cash out prioritizing system is fair? Is there any other way Graham (Entrecard’s founder) could handle the cash outs? Please let me know your opinion.

I have set up a Facebook fan page for Recipe Mobile. This week, Facebook updated their business pages to make them look more like user’s profile pages. They now have a ‘wall’, a photos and other media page and a ‘boxes’ page which can hold all kinds of applications. Also, updates from fan pages will show in fan profile streams. This increases the potential of exposure significantly.  Building a facebook page for your business or website is also the first step towards advertising on Facebook.

Both Deepa (Recipe Mobile’s author and my wife) and I have a lot of friends that we connect with on Facebook. Since it is a much closer community, we can use the fan page to get them more involved with the website while still keeping things more personal than we can on the website (which caters to a global community). This includes posting reviews of local restaurants, talking about local foodie events, parties etc.Â

We have started taking pictures almost every time Deepa cooks and we will also be posting a lot of these pictures regularly to the fan page. I have also set up the application Rss-Connect to pull in Recipe Mobile’s feed into the Facebook fan page automatically. This keeps the Facebook community up to date with the updates on the website and hopefully will end up increasing click through. I have also put a new button on Recipe Mobile linking to its Facebook page. We already have 10 fans on the first day (although most of them are our close friends :))

Visit the fan page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/wwwrecipemobilecom/67656529574 and leave us your comments there or under this post. Also, please contact me if anyone would like help creating a fan page for their own blog. It only takes a few minutes time to set up and I recommend every blogger do it to increasing community involvement. Once you have set up your fan page please leave a link in the comments section here so that I and the readers of this blog can visit it.

All in all a good first grassroots marketing push.

However, I did add an entrecard widget there. No harm in earning some free advertising credits and it actually helps me pull in some visits as other entrecard users visit the website to drop their card.

I want to add an entrecard widget to this blog also, but currently entrecard only supports 1 website per account. Ill figure out a solution and post a more comprehensive article here when I do.
