A.R. Rahman’s Best Song
by Kunal Jain on Feb.24, 2009, under off beat

Winning two academy awards at the 2009 Oscar ceremony for the music of Slumdog Millionaire
has catapulted A.R. Rahman to wordwide fame but he has been one of the most prominent figures in Indian music for many years. Â Hopefulle, the internation attention he is receiving will introduce more people to the great music that he has created for many years before his recent success.
Â
Â
Although the song ‘Jai Ho’ he composed for Slumdog Millionaire was great, it is was far from his best.  Since his music debut in the 1992 film ‘Roja’, he has been churning out industry changing music at a consistent rate. Â
Jai Ho – Slumdog Millionaire
Â
In my opinion, his most moving music was his 1997 rendition of one of India’s national songs, ‘Vande Matram’. Â Rahman’s song was called ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ and it was released to coincide with the fiftieth anniversery of India’s freedom. Â Both the song and its music video are extremely moving and patriotic. Â The music video was amazing too. Â You can see it below:

Â
Some of my other favorites from A. R. Rahman include (in no particular order):
Â
Â
Â
Khwaja Mere Khwaja – Jodhaa Akbar
Â
Â
Â
Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera – Swades (Another patriotic song sung by Rahman himself)
